Our Continuity Pledge

If PrivateChief ever stops, here is what happens.

You are trusting us with your household's or your company's working record. You should know what becomes of it if we ever stop operating. These four promises are written into our Service Agreement (section 24), and this page explains them in plain words, including what would stop working.

  1. 1. At least 90 days' notice.

    If we decide to stop providing PrivateChief to our customers, we will tell you in writing at least 90 days before your service ends. If another company takes over our agreements and keeps the service running, this pledge goes with them.

  2. 2. A complete export, in formats you can open.

    Before your service ends, we will give you a complete copy of your information. You do not have to wait for an emergency: you can ask us for one at any time while you are a customer, and our team will produce it and send it to you securely. It includes:

    • every conversation your Chief has kept, as readable text files;
    • your PrivateChief calendar as an iCalendar file, which any calendar can import, and the contacts your Personal Chief keeps as vCards;
    • your documents, in their original files and under their original names;
    • everything else your Chief keeps, such as projects, lists, standing instructions, Books records, notes and settings, as spreadsheet (CSV) and JSON files;
    • the records our central systems hold about your account, such as text messages with your Chief, notifications and usage;
    • for an in-home appliance, your Home Assistant automations, scenes and dashboards.

    Passwords, keys and other sign-in credentials are deliberately left out, as are caches that can be rebuilt. Every export lists exactly what was left out and why.

  3. 3. Your home keeps its Home Assistant.

    An in-home PrivateChief appliance runs Home Assistant, the open-source home-control system, and your lights, climate and other device schedules live there. Home Assistant runs in your home and does not depend on us, so it keeps working: its automations (including the ones your Chief set up), scenes, dashboards and the Home Assistant app on your home network. We will give you its owner login and administrator access to the appliance.

    Some device connections, such as Google Nest, may have been set up under our developer accounts. You may need to reconnect those under your own account, and we will tell you which ones.

  4. 4. Your hosted server, if you want it.

    If your Chief runs on a dedicated server we host, we will, at your written request during the notice period, copy that server into an Amazon Web Services account you name, with our access and keys removed, along with written notes on what it needs to run. Running it yourself takes technical help, your own AI account, and your own email and phone services.

The Honest Part

What would stop.

Your Chief itself would not carry on as it does today. The PrivateChief apps reach your home or server through our systems, voice conversations run through our systems, and text messages, email, phone calls, notifications and software updates all come from us. When the service ends, those stop.

You may keep using the software already installed on your appliance or server for your own household or company. What we promise is that your information leaves with you, complete and readable, and that the home control you rely on every day stays in your home.
