PrivateChief vs. ChatGPT

Do you need an assistant, or a Chief for the whole household?

ChatGPT has become a capable personal assistant. On 23 September 2026 its Voice gained the plugins already connected to your account, such as email, calendar and Slack, and ChatGPT Work can keep a task moving in its own cloud browser after you put the phone down. For many people that will be enough. PrivateChief is for households and companies that want a Chief configured around them, shared by the people involved, and looked after by engineers who stay responsible for it.

Start with the fit.

Consider ChatGPT

Consider ChatGPT when the work is mostly yours alone — your inbox, your calendar, your documents — and you are comfortable connecting the apps, writing the scheduled tasks and reviewing what it does yourself.

ChatGPT now works by voice with your connected apps, carries longer tasks in a cloud browser that pauses for your sign-in or confirmation, runs scheduled and event-triggered tasks, and on Plus and Pro in the US can read connected financial accounts. That is a serious personal assistant for $20 a month. [1]

Consider PrivateChief

Consider PrivateChief when several people share the work: a family with its own permissions and privacy, a business with members and books, or both — and you want the setup, the standing routines and the upkeep handled for you.

A useful starting point is the Household Office: keeping documents and administrative work in order. The Chief prepares, organizes and explains; licensed professional advice and hands-on care remain with people.

What mattersChatGPTPrivateChief Personal
Voice and connected appsVoice can use the plugins and connected apps available to your account on web, iOS and Android. In ChatGPT Work, Voice can create documents, presentations and spreadsheets and work in a browser. [1]Talk with your Chief in the mobile and desktop apps or, with the in-home option, in the rooms of your house. It works through the accounts and permissions agreed for your household.
Carrying work forwardChatGPT Work can stay with a complex project for hours by breaking it into smaller steps, and keeps projects moving with scheduled tasks while you are away. [2]Give your Chief a project in a sentence. It researches, contacts people, schedules follow-ups and brings decisions back by text or email, and the project stays on record until it is closed.
Routines that run without being askedScheduled tasks run once or on a schedule, and event-triggered tasks respond to Gmail, Slack or GitHub activity. Plus allows five active tasks and Pro fifteen. You write and manage each task yourself. [3]A morning briefing and standing instructions are set up with you at onboarding and maintained by our team. Every automation is listed where you can see it and switch it off.
Who it servesConsumer plans are priced per person, and Memory draws on your own chats, saved memories and connected apps to personalise your account. [7]One household, with members who each keep their own privacy and permissions, and a shared household record. A Business Chief is a separate workspace with role-based access for staff.
MoneyFinances connects accounts through Plaid and credit data through Experian for a dashboard and questions, in the US on Plus and Pro. OpenAI states that it cannot move money, pay bills or make trades. [4]Personal Books and Business Books connect accounts through Plaid and keep the monthly books, including an on-screen profit and loss statement for a business.
Where it runsChatGPT runs in OpenAI’s apps on your phone and computer. Its cloud browser runs on a separate computer in the cloud, keeps working after you close your computer, and pauses when it needs your sign-in or confirmation. [5]Each household or company has its own dedicated server that we run, or a private appliance at your premises. The in-home option adds room wall units, presence and compatible home controls.
Setup and ongoing careSelf-service: you connect the apps, approve website access and review actions. Existing app connections, permissions and usage limits apply. [1]Our engineers scope and configure the service, then handle monitoring, updates, encrypted backups and support as part of the membership.

The complete cost

How much does ChatGPT cost?

ChatGPT

$20 / month for Plus

Plus is $20 per month and includes scheduled tasks and expanded access to ChatGPT Work. A free plan and an $8-per-month Go plan offer less; Pro starts at $100 per month. [6]

PrivateChief Personal

$149 / month

The household service fee. Fully hosted service requires no equipment and has a fixed $299 onboarding fee. An in-home installation adds local household capabilities, with equipment and White Glove setup quoted separately.

AI capacity is separate: bring your own OpenAI account for reasoning or use capacity we supply at cost plus 30%. Metered voice is billed at cost plus 30% either way. No annual commitment or cancellation fee.

See the complete pricing

ChatGPT is far cheaper, and for one person managing their own inbox and calendar it may be all that is needed. PrivateChief’s fee pays for a Chief configured around your household or company, shared access with individual privacy, and people who look after it. Weigh it against the work you want taken off your hands, not against a subscription.

Before you choose.

Can ChatGPT now do what PrivateChief does?

Much of the individual assistant work, yes: reading your email and calendar, drafting and sending messages, researching, and carrying a task forward in a browser. We would rather say so plainly. What it does not set out to be is a service configured around a whole household or company, shared by several people with their own privacy, with an in-home option and a team responsible for it.

Does PrivateChief use OpenAI?

Yes. OpenAI is the supported AI provider today. You can bring your own OpenAI account, in which case your Chief reasons on that account and we bill you nothing for it, or we supply the capacity at our cost plus 30%. The difference is not the model; it is the service built around it.

Can I keep using ChatGPT?

Yes. Nothing about PrivateChief stops you using ChatGPT for your own work. Your Chief looks after the household or company; ChatGPT can remain your personal assistant.

Which is more private?

Both publish their controls. ChatGPT lets you review and manage what it remembers, and its cloud browser keeps its own sign-ins separate from your device. PrivateChief keeps each household or company on its own dedicated server or on an appliance at your premises, with published processing boundaries. Compare what is stored, where, and who can see it.

What happens when ChatGPT changes?

It changes often. Every ChatGPT detail on this page was checked against OpenAI’s own documentation on the date shown. Follow the source links for the current position.
