His family handed its mental load to an AI agent. He wrote down everything that went wrong.

Every household has a job that never appears on a list of chores: the job of remembering. The tires before the trip, the warranty that runs out on the 30th, the call somebody promised to return, whether anyone fed the dog.

From July to October 2026, Bo Bennett and his wife Kim handed that job to an AI agent called Duncan in their Massachusetts home. Some of it went beautifully. Some of it went sideways. He kept the failures in, turned each one into a rule, and put it all in a short book, The Household Chief, which is free for your listeners.

Four conversations Bo is ready to have

01
The 23 jobs nobody sees
Bo sorted a household's invisible work into 23 jobs: 8 an AI agent can genuinely hold, 10 you share with it, and 5 that stay human. Meals, cleaning, driving and being there, the caring, and deciding who in the family owns which job.
02
“Did I feed the dog?”
The agent looked in the wrong place, misread a car, filed Bo’s words in his wife’s memory, and once told her nothing had been done when it had. Each failure was fixed and became a rule any family can use, with or without AI.
03
Hand it off, and know when to say stop
Tires booked. A new pool company found. A request about the trees near the power lines filed within five minutes of asking. How to hand over an errand so it actually gets done, and when to call it off.
04
Whose words go where
One house, several people, one agent. What it should remember for each person, what it must never repeat to someone else, and why a simple button often beats a clever sensor.
For the Host

Questions he is glad to be asked

  • What is the “mental load”, and which parts of it can an AI agent really carry?
  • Which five household jobs did you decide should always stay with people, and why?
  • Tell us about a time your household agent got it wrong. What did you change?
  • How do you hand off an errand so it actually gets done?
  • How do you stop an agent repeating one person’s words to someone else in the family?
  • What would you tell a busy family that wants to try this without buying anything?
  • As a social psychologist, why does the person who notices everything end up carrying everything?
About Bo

Robert “Bo” Bennett has been building internet companies since 1994. His web-hosting firm Adgrafix was sold to Allegiance Telecom in 2001, and he has run Archieboy Holdings, which operates more than fifty web properties, ever since. He earned a PhD in social psychology and has written books on critical thinking, including Logically Fallacious.

He and Kim live in Massachusetts. Their two children are grown, so his stories are about running a house, not about school runs. The family’s agent, Duncan, has been part of the house since the summer of 2026.

The Listener Gift

The Household Chief is a short, candid book: eleven chapters, the rules the family learned, and a “Try it now” at the end of each chapter that works with a notebook as well as with an AI agent. The ebook and audiobook are free, with no sign-up, at privatechief.com/book. Each show gets its own link for its show notes.

PrivateChief sets up the same kind of AI chief of staff for other households. More at privatechief.com/mental-load.
