PrivateChief Household IT: Tech Support for the Family's Computers and Phones
Household IT lets your PrivateChief help with the family's Macs, PCs, phones and tablets, with exactly the access you choose for each computer. The household in this walkthrough, the Ashfords, is invented for the demonstration.
Chapters
What Household IT does
- Lists every connected phone, tablet, Mac and PC separately, with whether it is online.
- Basic Access: system, storage, network, DNS and printer diagnostics, with no files and no screen access.
- Full Access, which you confirm: permitted files, viewing and controlling the screen, controlled command-line support, confirmed repairs and administrator requests.
- Both stay on until you turn them off, per computer; macOS and Windows security prompts still apply and cannot be bypassed.
- System and network checks on demand, and Remove ends a computer's access at once.
- Guided support on phones and tablets, which do not allow control of other apps.
- Sends a private setup link for a family member's Mac or PC by email or text; it expires in seven days and connects one computer.
What the narrator says
0:00Tech support for the family's devices
Every family has someone who fixes the printer and the Wi-Fi. Household IT lets your Chief help with the family's computers and phones, with exactly the access you choose.
0:13Every device, listed separately
This is the Mac app for Laura Ashford, from a family invented for this demonstration. Every connected phone, tablet, Mac or PC appears separately, so Savannah, the family's Chief, knows exactly which one needs help.
0:28Basic Access and Full Access
Each computer has two levels. Basic Access covers diagnostics: system, storage, network and printers, with no files and no screen. Full Access adds permitted files, viewing and controlling the screen, confirmed repairs and administrator requests, and asks you to confirm before it turns on.
0:51Your computer's own prompts still apply
Both stay on until you turn them off. The computer's own security prompts still apply, and PrivateChief cannot get around them. System check and Network check run a diagnostic on the spot.
1:04Basic Access for everyday problems
Ella's laptop has Basic Access only, which is enough for the everyday problems.
1:11Finding why the printer will not print
When it will not print, Savannah runs the checks, finds that it is on the guest Wi-Fi, and says so. She would need Full Access to go further, and only Laura can turn that on.
1:24Phones, and adding another computer
Phones get guided support. Savannah can check the PrivateChief app and talk you through settings, but a phone does not allow control of other apps. To connect another computer, send its owner a private setup link from your phone, by email or text.
