What the narrator says
0:00Speaking, reading and remembering
Learning a language takes three things: speaking, reading, and remembering words. Language Learning in PrivateChief does all three, at your level.
0:12The Tutor
Laura Ashford, from a family invented for this demonstration, is learning Spanish at an intermediate level. The Tutor starts a spoken lesson, at her level, and offers to run through her words.
0:26Reading, aloud and at your level
Reading gives her a short article written for her level, on a topic she picks or a fresh one each time. It can be read aloud, slower or faster, and any word she doesn't know is one tap away from its meaning.
0:42My Vocabulary, on a spaced schedule
The words she keeps go into My Vocabulary, and come back for review on a spaced schedule, from fifteen minutes to a month.
0:52Top Words
Top Words lists the most common words at each level. The ones she has marked learned already cover nearly three quarters of everyday speech.
1:03Grammar
Grammar works the same way. Points come due for practice on the same ladder, and the tutor notes any point she got wrong in a lesson, so it can be practised next.
