PrivateChief Timers & Alarms: Every Countdown in the House, Plus Timers That Do Things
Timers & Alarms is the PrivateChief screen for every countdown in the house. Each timer and alarm shows who set it and how long is left, and a timer can run an approved home control instead of ringing. The household in this walkthrough, the Ashfords, is invented for the demonstration.
Chapters
What Timers & Alarms does
- Starts a named timer in minutes, or an alarm at a time chosen on the wheel, once, daily, on weekdays or on weekends.
- Shows every timer and alarm with whose it is and the time left.
- Pause, resume, add a minute or five, cancel, and stop or snooze when it rings.
- Sets timers by voice, including in another room or everywhere.
- Runs an approved home control instead of ringing, such as closing the pool hose after two hours.
- Ongoing, everyday rules live in the Playbook.
What the narrator says
0:00Every countdown in the house
Pasta on the stove, cookies in the oven, an early practice tomorrow. Timers and Alarms keeps every countdown in the house in one place, and says whose each one is.
0:13Quick timers and alarms
Laura Ashford, from a family invented for this demonstration, names a timer and starts it. For an alarm, she picks the time on the wheel, and chooses once, daily, weekdays or weekends. Most people simply say it out loud instead: set a twenty-minute pasta timer.
0:34Pause, add time, cancel, stop
Every running timer shows who set it and how long is left. Pause it, add a minute or five, or cancel it. Ella's cookies are done, so that one is ready to stop.
0:48Timers that do something
A timer can also do something instead of ringing. It can run an approved home control, like closing the pool hose after two hours.
0:58Just ask your Chief
Laura just asks Savannah, the family's Chief. The hose opens now, and an action timer closes it later.
1:07Action timers, and ongoing rules
It sits on the list with everything else, and can be cancelled or extended like any timer. Ongoing rules, things that should happen every day, belong in the Playbook instead.
