PrivateChief vs. the new AI agents
An agent for you, or a Chief for everyone who depends on you?
This autumn brought a new kind of AI product. Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI’s dots, Meta’s Muse and Grok Bot are agents with their own computers in the cloud. You give them a goal by message, they work through your connected apps while you are away, and they come back when something needs your approval. They are genuinely capable, and most cost less than PrivateChief. PrivateChief does the same kind of work and a good deal more around it: a whole household with each member’s own privacy, a business back office, real phone calls, wall units in the rooms of your house, and engineers who are responsible for all of it. This page sets them side by side, quoting each company’s own pages.

Start with the fit.
Consider an AI agent
Choose one of these agents when the work is mostly yours alone — your inbox, your calendar, your documents, your research — you are happy to connect the apps and set the rules yourself, and the price matters.
Consider PrivateChief
Choose PrivateChief when other people depend on the work too: a family where each member keeps their own privacy, a company that needs its books, customers and filings kept, or both — and you want the setup, the phone calls, the home and the upkeep handled for you.
Compare the work and the service.
| What matters | Claude Duet | OpenAI dots | Meta Muse | Grok Bot | PrivateChief |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A proactive agent you hand work to by message. It works on its own computer in the cloud, using the apps you connect, and messages you when it is done or needs a decision. Powered by Opus 5.5, and a research preview. [1] | An always-on agent inside ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra, with its own cloud computer and browser. Give it a goal and it keeps making progress between conversations. [3] | A personal AI agent that does the work as well as answering questions. It runs on its own dedicated cloud computer, Muse Secure VM, and you talk to it in the Muse app or in WhatsApp. [6] | Named AI teammates with jobs and memory. Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, and you work with it by messaging it. [7] | A managed service with a named AI Chief for a household, a business or both, set up around the people involved and looked after by our engineers. Members use the iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac apps, and with the in-home option, wall units in the rooms of the house. |
| Who can get it | A research preview with a waitlist, for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. [1] | Rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users aged 18 and over outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, and to Business Premium workspaces in supported regions. Enterprise is a beta that an admin switches on. [4] | Rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and muse.ai, and coming soon to Meta’s AI glasses. [6] | Included in Premium, Super and Ultra on The X Subscription, and in every paid individual Cursor plan and Cursor Teams. The $8 Plus tier does not include it. [8] | Households and companies, after a private consultation. Hosted Personal and hosted Business can also be started online. Each member of the household or company gets the apps by invitation. |
| Email, calendar and apps | Works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins, and starts with the memory, skills and apps already in your Claude account. It flags what needs you in your inbox and calendar and drafts replies for you to approve. [1] | Connects to over 4,000 apps through OpenAI’s plugins. You can message or call it in ChatGPT, and message it in Slack and Teams. [3] | You choose which apps it connects to and how much access each one gets; for email, whether it only reads or can also send for you. Passwords go into secure storage it cannot see. [6] | Uses connected apps where they exist and operates its computer for everything else, including many websites without a connected app. Sign-ins and other human steps are handed back to you. [7] | Works through the email, calendars and accounts agreed for your household or company, with each person’s own permissions. It has far fewer ready-made app connections than these agents; each one is chosen and set up with you. |
| Working while you are away | Keeps working while you are away. It briefs you every morning, drafts next steps, then goes quiet until something needs you. [1] | Works towards your goals 24/7. When you are not working with it, it looks for ways to help in your connected apps, using read-only tools. [3] | Keeps working after you close the app, and comes back when something changes or when it needs your approval. [6] | Work runs on the cloud computer, so closing the app, your laptop or your phone does not stop a task or a scheduled routine. Several Bots can work in parallel. [7] | A morning briefing for each member and standing routines, set up with you at onboarding and maintained by our team. Projects are tracked over days, with follow-ups on what other people owe you, until they are closed. |
| Asking before acting | Asks you before sensitive operations like sending messages or paying, and shows you what it has done and is doing. [1] | Starts with built-in rules for when to act and when to ask. Custom Rules let you allow an action, require approval or block it, and some steps, such as changing a password, always stay with you. [3] | Checks with you before sensitive actions like sending an email or making a purchase. A separate Sentinel agent must approve anything Muse sends to the internet, and you see a full audit trail. [6] | Keeps you updated in the conversation and comes back when something needs your approval. [7] | Confirms with you before it sends, books or calls on your behalf. A company decides what its Chief may send to clients, and every automation is listed where you can see it and switch it off. |
| Phone calls | You can talk to it by voice in the app. Its page does not describe placing phone calls for you. [1] | You can call your dot from its conversation. At launch it cannot start a call to you. [4] | It can fill out forms and negotiate for you in its browser. Meta’s announcement does not describe placing phone calls. [6] | You work with a Bot by message on desktop and iPhone. The documentation does not describe placing phone calls. [7] | Places the actual phone call, such as booking the restaurant or, with the company’s approval, calling a client, after confirming with you first. |
| Household or team | One person’s agent, with your history in one thread. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. [1] | Your dot works on your behalf. OpenAI is also previewing specialist dots that a company sets up with their own identity and access, starting with enterprise pilots. [3] | A personal agent that remembers what matters to the person using it, who can tell it to forget specific things. [6] | Your Bots share one cloud computer and can message each other in group chats. On a team, a colleague’s Team Bot usually works on your computer too. [7] | A whole household, with each member’s own private calendar, permissions and privacy beside a shared household record; or a company, with role-based access for staff. Personal and Business can run together as separate Chiefs. |
| Running a business | Takes on some of the work of running a business, such as finding unpaid invoices and drafting the reminders, preparing payroll for you to review and getting contracts ready to send. [1] | Built for work. OpenAI’s examples include software fixes, launches, research, sales proposals and content, and an early tester’s dot prepared and sent a forgotten invoice after his approval. [3] | Muse for Small Business connects tools such as QuickBooks, Shopify, Stripe, Slack and your Facebook and Instagram business accounts, and can analyse sales and draft campaigns. Nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval. [10] | Bots suit roles that span several tools, such as pulling a pipeline list from your CRM, researching the accounts and drafting outreach for your approval. [7] | A Business Chief that is the back office itself: monthly Books from connected accounts, customer records, quotes, invoices and payment matching, a compliance register that surfaces upcoming filings, and projects and documents in one workspace. |
| In the home | An app for iOS and Android, and on the web at claude.ai. Its page does not describe home devices. [1] | Lives in ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile, and can be given access to your own computer. OpenAI’s help page does not describe home devices. [4] | On iOS, Android and the web, and coming soon to Meta’s AI glasses. [6] | Desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux and an iPhone app. The Bots’ computers run in Cursor’s cloud. [7] | With the in-home option, a private hub and an 11-inch wall unit in each room you choose. The wall unit recognizes each enrolled member, makes room announcements and controls compatible devices, including Zigbee, Z-Wave, Control4 and Lutron, through a Home Assistant we manage. |
| Setup and care | Message it by text or voice, with no prompts or setup. As a research preview it may misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. [1] | You create it yourself in the ChatGPT app or on desktop web, connect your apps and set its rules. [4] | Built so anyone can use it out of the box, with no technical experience required. [6] | Setup is a message, not a workflow builder: create a Bot, describe the job and grant access as it asks. [7] | Our engineers scope and configure it, then handle monitoring, updates, encrypted backups and support. Each household or company has its own dedicated server or an appliance at your premises. |

Where each is the better choice.
The agents are better at
- Price
- Muse is free for most of what people need. Duet comes with Claude Pro at $20 a month, Grok Bot with The X Subscription from $30 and a dot with ChatGPT Pro from $100. PrivateChief starts at $149 a month, before AI usage.
- Self-service in minutes
- Each one starts with a message. There is no consultation, no installer and no onboarding fee.
- Far more connections
- Duet works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins and dots with over 4,000 apps. PrivateChief connects a much smaller set, chosen and set up with you.
- Their own cloud computers
- Each has its own computer and browser in the cloud for long research and for building documents, decks and dashboards; dots and Grok Bot also write and test code. PrivateChief is not built for software work.
PrivateChief is better at
- Everyone in the household
- One Chief for the family, with each member’s private calendar, briefing and permissions kept apart from the shared household record.
- The business back office
- Books, customers, quotes, invoices, payment matching and upcoming filings kept in the Chief’s own workspace, rather than reached through other tools.
- The actual phone call
- It rings the restaurant, the supplier or, with the company’s approval, the client, after confirming with you.
- In the rooms of the house
- Wall units that recognize each member, room announcements and compatible home controls, with the in-home option.
- Engineers responsible for it
- People who set it up, watch over it, back it up and fix it. Mention a problem to your Chief and it becomes a tracked request to our team.
- Your own server, and a promise
- Each household or company has its own dedicated server or appliance. Our continuity pledge promises 90 days’ notice, a full export in open formats and a copy of a hosted server if we ever stop.
How much do the AI agents cost?
Meta Muse
Free
Free for most of what people need, with subscription plans for people who want to do more. [6]
PrivateChief
$149 / month
Personal is $149 a month, Business $199, and Personal and Business together $299. Hosted service has a fixed $299 onboarding fee; in-home equipment and setup are quoted for the job.
AI capacity is separate: bring your own OpenAI account, or use capacity we supply at our cost plus 30%. No annual commitment or cancellation fee.
Every one of these agents costs less than PrivateChief, and Muse costs nothing. For one person managing their own work, one of them may be all that is needed, and we would rather say so. PrivateChief’s fee pays for a Chief configured around a whole household or company, the business back office, the phone calls and the home, and for the people who look after it.
Before you choose.
Is PrivateChief smarter than Claude Duet, dots, Muse or Grok Bot?
No, and we would not claim it. PrivateChief runs on OpenAI models; you can bring your own OpenAI account, or we supply the capacity at cost plus 30%. These agents run on their makers’ newest models. The difference is not the model; it is who the Chief serves and the service built around it.
Can these agents read my email and act for me?
Yes. All four work through the apps you connect, including email, keep working while you are away, and take actions after asking you first. Earlier AI assistants could not; these can, and this page does not pretend otherwise.
Which is right for a family?
If one person wants help with their own inbox, calendar and errands, one of these agents may be enough. If the whole household should share one Chief, with each member’s own privacy, a shared calendar, wall units in the house and someone to call the plumber, that is what PrivateChief is built for.
Which is right for a small business?
If your business already runs on tools such as QuickBooks, Shopify or a CRM and you want help inside them, Muse for Small Business, Duet and dots are designed for that and cost far less. PrivateChief’s Business Chief keeps the back office itself — books, customers, quotes, invoices and filings — with staff access by role and engineers responsible for it.
Can I use one of these agents alongside PrivateChief?
Yes. Nothing about one prevents the other, and this page does not claim any integration between them. Many people will keep a personal agent for their own work and a Chief for the household or company.
What happens when these agents change?
They will change quickly: Duet is a research preview, and dots and Muse are still rolling out. Every detail on this page was checked on the companies’ own pages on the date shown. Follow the source links for the current position.

Bring the work that involves more than you.
Tell us who is in the household or company and which work still lands on you. We will show what a Chief would take on, and where one of these agents on its own would serve you just as well.
